Charleston's tiniest treasure hunt! Hidden on the Gates Building in the second block of Capitol Street is the Mortar Man — the city's smallest piece of public art.
At only 2 inches by 4 inches, this beloved sculpture was created by local artist P. Joseph Mullins in 1994 during a lunch break while restoring the building's façade. Sculpted from leftover concrete mortar, the tiny figure wasn't discovered by the public until years later!
